Irene Fei has been invited to contest the US Junior Girls championship July 12-25 in St. Louis! This is an invitational tournament that only the top 10 junior girls are invited to.

Chess in Iowa is a 503(c) that exists to promote Chess In Iowa. If you'd like to join our board, please email Shawn.Kmetz@ChessInIowa.org.

Our tenative plans for late 2026-27 include

• The return of the Prairie Chess Series *(Scholastic Chess series):

  • October tournament. Tentatively Oct 10, Prairie Point Cafeteria

  • November tournament. Tentatively November 14, Prairie Point Cafeteria

• Hosting the Iowa Barber/Denker/Rockefeller/Ashley tournament (state qualifier for the respective national tournaments in the following grade ranges)

  • K-3

  • K-5

  • 6-8

  • High School

• Cedar Rapids Farmer's Market outdoor Club

• Providing 100 vouchers for free USChess memberships to any scholastic chess player that wants to play in a tournament in Iowa

• Hosting a Chess camp (summer 2027, details are a wip)

• Iowa City Public Libarary Steve Young Memorial Tournement - November 7

• End of Summer Smash (CR Rapid + Blitz Sept 12)

• New Years Swiss (IASCA mini-GP) 4 rd G65; d5;

• Matches between cities (CR versus Dubuque, CR versus Quad Cities in the works)
